My younger sister  is on Spring break and my mum had work. After I prepared her breakfast (buttermilk biscuits from scratch), I needed to take a nap. When I awoke, we somehow had a heart to heart. My younger sister is 15 years old-and a freshman in H.S. She came into this world, literally fighting for her life. Born several months premature and weighing just over a lb, her entry into this world was filled with complications. Even today, she must go to the hospital at the first sign of a cold. Vanilla Bean Mania

I absolutely love baking and not because I am looking forward to the final product. For me its a form of nostalgia. Coming from a single parent household with a mom that was working two jobs and in a masters program, baking represented quality time. My sister, brother and I would spend a few hours with mom debating which cookie we would create and have a contest to see who could bake the largest cookie. The winner received the contents of my mothers baking tray-she was and remains a fabulous baker/cook. Continue reading
